The LEGO Master Model Builder
Every LEGOLAND® Discovery Centre has its own Master Model Builder. They’re in charge of all the LEGO® models built on site and some people would say they have the best job in the world!
Our Master Model Builder is Pascal Lenhard, and you can read all about him in his interview below.
Pascal also writes a blog about LEGO building right here on the LEGOLAND Discovery Centre site! It’s always an interesting read, and if you have a good question for him, or an idea for his next blog, maybe he’ll write his next one about you!
Name:
Pascal Lenhard
Date of Birth:
26/06/971
Hometown:
Sigmaringen, BW
Favourite LEGO colour:
Bright orange
Favourite LEGO element:
The flat pieces, because you can add great details to the models..
Favourite food:
Noodles with cheese, because this is a traditional food in my mother country.
Non-LEGO hobbies:
Playing the drums, reading and going to concerts
How did you get your job?:
I had to go through an audition. The first day I had to build anything I wanted with 70 bricks in 15 minutes. I built a ship. The second day I had to build a mushroom with 300 bricks in 1 hour, and on the third day I was interviewed. In the beginning of the audition process there were about 300 applicants for the job. By the end, the job was mine!
What is the best thing about your job?:
My favourite hobby is my job!
What is the longest time you have spent building a LEGO model?:
The memorial church of Berlin is built at a scale of 1 to 60. It took about 30,000 bricks and 12 weeks to build.
Did you build all of the models at the LEGOLAND Discovery Centre?:
No, that would take too long. Just one big model in our Miniland takes a model builder nearly a year! In our Miniland there are about 50 buildings and different houses, so we needed many model builders from different countries to help build everything.
Model Builder is the best job in the world, but if you could have any other job, what would you do?:
I would like to be a LEGO model designer and design new models using a computer.
Do you have a university degree?:
No, and to do my job, I don’t think it’s necessary to have a degree. In my opinion the most important thing for a LEGO model builder is experience and a passion for building with LEGO.
